Bengali Hobbits is published!

ALWEER EEN NIEUWE VERTALING VAN THE HOBBIT

Niemand weet precies in hoeveel talen The Hobbit van J.R.R. Tolkien vertaald is.

TRANSLATION:

Nobody seems to know exactly how many translations there are of The Hobbit. I think there are sixty. Those sixty translations can be seen on my website www.hobbithunter.nl. The Bengali translation is # 60. In 2009 the Frisian (local Dutch language) translation by Anne Tjerk Popkema was # 59.

The story of the Bengali translation started in 2010, when the translator ANIRUDDHA contacted me. He had problems finding a publisher. I suggested POD (printing on demand). He did and not much later there was the Bengali translation. Click on yhe cover and find more information on this book.

Bengali … never heard of? Well, it is a language spoken by some 300.000.000 people in Bengali and parts of India.

ANIRUDDHA also made 35 illustrations for this book.

How to buy this book (+/- EUR 17,00 including p&p)? Go to http://www.dogearsetc.com/mainpage.jsp?type=2&id=36751.
Don’t forget to mention that you will pay with Paypal.

Help received!

Rolands Savvins could tell me more about the stories in Russian Hobbit #6 in my Hobbitcollection. He wrote me as follows:

Book starts with short verse by J.R.R. Tolkien called “Goblin Feet”. Than goes “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again”.
And in the end other stories written by J.R.R. Tolkien:
1)”Smith of Wooton Major”
2)”Farmer Giles of Ham”
3)”The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses From the Red Book”
4)”The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm’s Son”
5)Some selected letters written by Tolkien
6)A lecture written by J. R. R. Tolkien in 1931: “A Secret Vice”
7)”Leaf by Niggle”

Illustrations:
dustjack – Tim Hidebrandt
hardback  - A. Saukova

Rolands, thanks again!

More help is always welcome. If you see a “?” in bookdescriptions and you know what there should be, please, contact me at info@hobbithunter.nl.

Bengali Hobbit – not yet published

A very special Hobbit this time: a Hobbit in Bengali, a language, spoken in Bangladesh, Bengali and some parts of India. A large language: some 300.000.000 people speak it!

This Hobbit has not yet been published. The translator, ANIRUDDHA, sent me the first chapter and some of his illustrations. I can only hope, that this Hobbit will be printed soon.

ANIRUDDHA, thank you!

At the end of the year 2010 …..

It was a good year for my Hobbit Collection. No less than 43 new entries this year. Amongst them some special ones: first printings. From Poland 1960 (thanks to Marek), Portugal 1962 (thanks to Paulo) and Finland 1962 (thanks to Marek, again).

Poland 1960 Portugal 1962

Finland 1973

And in 2010 it was 50 years ago, that The Hobbit had it’s first printing in Dutch. To celebrate that, there was a jubilee package of three books: De Hobbit in the same cover as in 1960 (Kelfkens), a first Dutch graphic version of De Hobbit and the first Dutch translation of Bilbo’s Last Song (Bilbo’s laatste lied).

Jubilee package 50 years The Hobbit in Dutch

From December 6, 2010 untill January, 3 2011 there is a little exposition of some of my Hobbits in the shop-window  of Waanders Bookshop in Zwolle, see photo below. Amongst the shown books there are the five first prints of the five first translations of The Hobbit: Sweden 1947, Germany 1957, Holland 1960, Poland 1960 (a few months later) and Portugal 1962.

And for those of you, that can read Dutch, since january 2010 I write a short article on Hobbits on website www.dehobbit.net.

For 2011: all the best to all of you!
