At the end of the year 2010 …..

It was a good year for my Hobbit Collection. No less than 43 new entries this year. Amongst them some special ones: first printings. From Poland 1960 (thanks to Marek), Portugal 1962 (thanks to Paulo) and Finland 1962 (thanks to Marek, again).

Poland 1960 Portugal 1962

Finland 1973

And in 2010 it was 50 years ago, that The Hobbit had it’s first printing in Dutch. To celebrate that, there was a jubilee package of three books: De Hobbit in the same cover as in 1960 (Kelfkens), a first Dutch graphic version of De Hobbit and the first Dutch translation of Bilbo’s Last Song (Bilbo’s laatste lied).

Jubilee package 50 years The Hobbit in Dutch

From December 6, 2010 untill January, 3 2011 there is a little exposition of some of my Hobbits in the shop-window  of Waanders Bookshop in Zwolle, see photo below. Amongst the shown books there are the five first prints of the five first translations of The Hobbit: Sweden 1947, Germany 1957, Holland 1960, Poland 1960 (a few months later) and Portugal 1962.

For 2011: all the best to all of you!

Two new Dutch Hobbits

It took some years, but here it is: the brandnew first Dutch translation of the Graphic Novel of The Hobbit.
Click on the cover for more information about this Hobbit.

In 1960 the Dutch translation was the third translation of The Hobbit. Sweden (1947) and Germany (1957) were the numbers one and two.
So, this year De Hobbit celebrated his 50th anniversary. The original 1960-cover was used again. In 1960 it was a pocketbook (and costed EUR 0,56), now it is a paperback (EUR 15,00).

Annotated Hobbit 1988

This version of the Annotated Hobbit by Douglas A. Anderson looks exactly the same as English Hobbit 100.
There is one difference: this version was printed in the USA, English Hobbit 100 was printed in Scotland (UK).
I bought this Hobbit on eBay from awesomebooks usa.

A good weekend voor Hobbits: five new ones!

Last weekend Jan B., a famous member of the Dutch Tolkien Society UNQUENDOR (ww.unquendor.nl) visited my Hobbitlibrary. He had five Hobbits (plus some other Tolkien things) with him. I was lucky to buy them. See what new Hobbits arrived:

From Catalan, a part of Spain (Barcelona) with their own version of the Spanish langusage.

A very nice copy: the second edition of the Bulgarian Hobbit (1997)

And a Russian Hobbit, number 38.

Quite a special Hobbit, from Romania.

Last, but certainly not least: a very special edition of a Czech Hobbit. 21 exerpts from The Hobbit with illustrations by Jan Václavík.

Jan, thanks again!
